On a brisk November 16 evening, Newtown High School’s football team completed the campaign with a convincing victory over arch-rival Masuk of Monroe, 28-0.

All of the scores came in the first half on quarterback Matt Maturo touchdown passes of 17 yards to Ethan Carpenter, 32 yards to Sam Czel, and 30 yards to Mark Urso, along with a 65-yard punt return by the versatile Carpenter.

Andrew Svanda and Carpenter added two-point conversion runs. Other offensive highlights included two punt returns for a combined 50 yards by Matt Elias, pass receptions by Sam Duffy and Matt Carino, and a 25-yard run by John DelRossi.

The team registered its fourth shutout of the year. Urso had a fumble recovery, Nick Samuelson and Brandon Hensel recorded sacks, and Greg Harrison blocked a punt. Michael Doyle, George Salaris, Tommy Elliot, Carlo Fenaroli, and Ryan Shaw all recorded tackles behind the line of scrimmage.

The team, coached by Kevin Bellinot, posted an 8-1 record this fall.
