Newtown High School's football team, sparked by a six-touchdown first half that included Ben Mason's state record tying fifth career interception return for a touchdown, defeated host Notre Dame-Fairfield 49-7 in an afternoon game, on November 5.

Touchdown runs by Hunter Cobb and Mason gave the Nighthawks an early 14-0 lead. Mason picked off a pass at the Newtown 35 yard line and returned it 65 yards for a score, helping the Nighthawks to a 21-0 lead after one quarter of play.

Cobb added two more TD runs in the second quarter, and quarterback Justin Dunn connected with Mason for another touchdown to cap the first-half scoring.
