Flash Flood Warning Announced

The National Weather Service in Upton, N.Y., has extended the flash flood warning for southern Fairfield County until 6 pm Tuesday, September 25.

At 3:37 pm Doppler radar indicated heavy rain across the warned area, according to the National Weather Service. Flash flooding is already occurring in some areas. Some locations that will experience flash flooding, according to the announcement, are Yonkers, Stamford, New Rochelle, White Plains, Port Chester, New Canaan, Rye, Mount Kisco, Greenwich, Harrison, Scarsdale, Bronxville, Hawthorne, Bedford, and Mount Vernon.

Precaution is advised. Weather.com advises that people should turn around when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. People are also asked to report flooding to their local law enforcement agency when they can report from a safe location.

Flood warning means that flooding is imminent or occurring. People in the warned area should find higher ground immediately. Residents living along streams and creeks should take immediate precautions to protect life and property, according to the announcement.
