President Barack Obama has issued a proclamation ordering flags to be lowered to half-staff "as a mark of respect for the memory of Nancy Reagan."

The former First Lady, 94, died of congestive heart failure Sunday morning at her home in the Bel-Air section of Los Angeles, according to the Associated Press.

"The flag of the United States shall be flown at half-staff at the White House and upon all public buildings and grounds, at all military posts and naval stations, and on all naval vessels of the Federal Government in the District of Columbia and throughout the United States and its Territories and possessions until sunset, on the day of interment," the proclamation, issued Monday morning, said in part. "I also direct that the flag shall be flown at half-staff for the same period at all United States embassies, legations, consular offices, and other facilities abroad, including all military facilities and naval vessels and stations."

Connecticut Governor Dannel P. Malloy followed suit late Monday morning, announcing that US and state flags across the state are to be lowered to half-staff "beginning immediately until sunset on the day of interment."

Details on Mrs Reagan's funeral arrangements were not yet available. She will be laid to rest in California next to her husband, former President Ronald Reagan, at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library, Mrs Reagan's spokeswoman announced March 6.
