Sandy Hook Fire & Rescue Second Assistant Chief Ryan Clark, right, used a thermal imaging camera in determining whether there was any fire within a wall at Newtown Senior Center, 14 Riverside Road, Tuesday afternoon. Firefighters determined that an electrical outlet, which was being used to power a window-style air-conditioner, had overheated and failed, creating the smell of smoke. The incident initially was reported as a structure fire at 4:51 pm on August 8, and Sandy Hook, Hook & Ladder, Hawleyville, and Botsford volunteer firefighters were all dispatched.
