To the Editor:

The Pootatuck Watershed Association once again extends our gratitude to our intrepid, cheerful volunteers. On July 30, a hearty group led by intern Cole Baldino, and including a number of Trout Unlimited members and others, successfully removed an old beaver dam and did other strenuous work to improve trout habitat in the Wild Trout Management Area in Newtown. Many kindly lent tools and equipment. As a result of their labor, native trout will now be able to reach their spawning location each year and will have several improved areas of refuge along the way. Just days afterward, a brook trout was spotted in one of the newly formed pools.

More volunteer opportunities to help with this important project will be forthcoming, giving new life to Deep Brook and the Pootatuck, for the health of wildlife and the enjoyment of people of all ages.

Sincerely,

Sarah W. Middeleer
