EverWonder Children's Museum February Events Announced

EverWonder Children's Museum has unveiled its calendar for February. The museum has events for the entire family.

The museum, at 31 Pecks Lane, is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10 am to 5 pm, and Sundays from 11 am to 5 pm. Admission is $7 per person, and children under the age of 1 year old are free. Museum members are free. Parking at the museum is also free.

The event calendar is subject to change without notice. Check everwondermuseum.org or the museum's Facebook page for calendar changes and announcements.

Story Lab for Young Explorers meets on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 10:30 to 11:00 am. This 30-minute program of STEM-themed stories, activities, and crafts takes place in the EverWonder classroom.  Parents must stay with their children during the program. Program is free with museum admission.

Special Activities

The following events are ongoing during museum hours unless otherwise noted.

Wednesday, February 1 - Science Lab: Candy Heart Challenge.

Museum guests will work on engineering skills during this event, designing and building walls out of conversation hearts. After building a load-bearing wall or a non-load-bearing wall, children will test the strength of their wall through a wind test.

Thursday, February 2 - Groundhog Day.

Learn about shadows on Groundhog Day.

Tuesday, February 7 - Art Lab Change: Butterfly Hearts.

Butterfly x Hearts = Perfectly Symmetric!

Learn about symmetry and lines of symmetry through making a butterfly out of hearts in EverWonder's newest art lab.

Wednesday, February 8 - Science Lab: Love Bead Coding.

Children will learn binary coding through creating hearts with pipe cleaners and then stringing beads in binary sequence to create Valentine's Day messages.

Through this activity, children will also learn about patterns and work on their gross motor skills.

Tuesday, February 14 - Valentine's Day.

All artists are invited to make a watercolor heart valentine for a special family member or friend on Valentine's Day.

Wednesday, February 15 - Science Lab: Thaumatropes.

For this science lab, museum guests will be taking a trip back to the 19th Century to make thaumatropes.

A thaumatrope is an optical illusion toy with a disk with a picture on each side attached to either a piece of string or a stick. When the thaumatrope is twirled quickly the images blend into one image.

Monday, February 20 - Presidents' Day.

EverWonder Children's Museum will be open on Monday, February 20, from 10 am to 5 pm, in honor of Presidents' Day.

Museum staff will helping children conduct the penny cleaning experiment, where children will learn about chemical reactions and atoms.

Children will create their own solutions to clean pennies out of water, vinegar, soap, and baking soda.

Wednesday, February 22 - Science Lab: Spoon Maracas.

Museum guests will make their own maracas out of plastic eggs, spoons, rice and masking tape.

Formed in January 2011 by a group of parents, EverWonder Children's Museum (incorporated as Newtown Children's Museum, Inc) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to inspiring children and families in northern Fairfield County through the use of hands-on museum exhibits and demonstrations.
