Special Activities

The following events are ongoing during museum hours unless otherwise noted.

Wednesday, February 1 — Science Lab: Candy Heart Challenge.

Museum guests will work on engineering skills during this event, designing and building walls out of conversation hearts. After building a load-bearing wall or a non-load-bearing wall, children will test the strength of their wall through a wind test.

Thursday, February 2 — Groundhog Day.

Learn about shadows on Groundhog Day.

Tuesday, February 7 — Art Lab Change: Butterfly Hearts.

Butterfly x Hearts = Perfectly Symmetric!

Wednesday, February 8 — Science Lab: Love Bead Coding.

Children will learn binary coding through creating hearts with pipe cleaners and then stringing beads in binary sequence to create Valentine’s Day messages.

Through this activity, children will also learn about patterns and work on their gross motor skills.

Tuesday, February 14 — Valentine’s Day.

All artists are invited to make a watercolor heart valentine for a special family member or friend on Valentine’s Day.

Wednesday, February 15 — Science Lab: Thaumatropes.

For this science lab, museum guests will be taking a trip back to the 19th Century to make thaumatropes.
