ON THE ROAD FOR JUNE 20
MODERN ENGLISH, the band that had one exceptionally well done single ("Melt
With You") - or was that an exceptional commercial jingle? I forget - will be
at Toad's Place next month, on July 15. Also returning from the Eighties will
be SUICIDAL TENDENCIES, July 24, same venue.
Along with the release this week of a new album from DAVID BYRNE comes word of
a pre-tour warm-up date at Toad's Place, Sunday night (6/22). That's short
notice, I know, but remember this is a pre-tour date, so Byrne isn't creating
a lot of noise about dates like this. These dates are for him to get a feeling
for playing the new material, not necessarily a big splashy production. But
still a good night for any Byrne fans to visit New Haven.
MORPHINE is on, SOUL COUGHING is off. That's the latest on the lineup for the
HORDE Tour date at the Meadows this year, which is August 6. Tickets are on
sale already. The lineup already includes NEIL YOUNG & CRAZY HORSE, BECK and
PRIMUS, among the others.
Also concerning The Meadows, tickets will be going on sale Saturday morning
for two more shows. LIVE will be playing Friday, August 1, with LUSCIOUS
JACKSON and FUN LOVIN' CRIMINALS opening, and RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE, with
WU TANG CLAN opening, will be in Hartford Sunday, August 17. Tickets for both
of these shows are way affordable. The Meadows is calling these "Summer
Solstice" Specials, with the Live tickets going at $25.50 for everything in
the pavilion and $18 for lawn seating, while everything for Rage is $23.
Quick! Somebody tell Mom! A tour with THE YARDBIRDS and THE ANIMALS, which
plays at Tuxedo Junction in Danbury on July 29, actually features a few of
each band's original members. Remember the wording however: "a few." That's
press release/record company speak for maybe one-member-per-band. Regardless,
for fans of either or both bands, it should be a fun night.
REEL BIG FISH is also coming to the Danbury club, on July 28.
The Webster Theatre in Hartford will play host to a show by VERUCA SALT on
July 26, with LOCAL H and Figdish opening the bill.
Something interesting came over the wire this week. From Brookfield comes news
of THE CARNIVAL OF ROCK AND ROLL. On Saturday, June 28, noon to 9 pm, the
Musical Arts School and Studio (14 Delmar Drive in Brookfield, just off
Federal Road) will present an all-day, outdoor music festival of local talent.
Already on this bill is CONNECTICUT WHITE BREAD, BIG TOP LOW, DERT, STONY
HILL, WITNESS RELOCATION PROGRAM and ROCK ALLEY, plus, and I quote, the
ever-famous "others to be announced."
Tickets for this to-do are $5 each, coolers will be permitted, and there will
be refreshments being sold, of course. There will also be "exotic body
piercings," according to the newsbrief that came in. For more specifics, call
MASS for yourself, 775-1998.
GABE DORMAN is returning to the area. Come on, you guys know his name by now!
Gabe is the former Newtowner who's been making some noise in New York City for
the past few years. His latest CD, Kissing Sisters , has just been released on
Palmetto Records and Gabe is coming back to the area for another show. He will
be opening for Martin Simpson next Saturday night at The Towne Crier in
Pawling, NY (just a hop-skip over the state line, relax!). Gabe plans on
taking the stage around 9:30 for a 30-minute set. Tickets are $15 each; call
the Crier at 914/855-1300.
Whew! I'm outta breath, so I'm outta here! Until next week, I'll be seeing
you... on the road.
