Connecticut Solar Tour

To Include One Newtown Home

Solar powered homes and businesses across Connecticut including the Hedrick residence at 54 Scudder Road in Newtown will be on display Saturday, October 3, from 10 am to 4 pm, as part of the National Solar Home Tour. The local tour is being presented by the non-profit organization Solar Connecticut, Inc.

The free event will provide the public with an opportunity to see working solar electric and solar thermal (hot-water) power systems and other green and renewable technologies. Property owners who own/lease solar systems will be on hand along with solar installers to describe how solar technology works, what it costs, and why it makes sense.

Connecticut residents have the opportunity to visit as many as 40 residences and 11 businesses across the state next weekend.

In addition to the home in Newtown, regional locations are in Ansonia (114 Woodbridge Avenue), Bethlehem (20 Still Hill Road), Orange (320 Long Meadow Road), Shelton (31 Lane Street, in the Huntington section), Sherman (3 Taber Road), Weston (5 Woods End Lane), Wilton (149 Thunder Lake Road) and Woodbury (32 Cat Swamp Road).

Businesses on the tour include 2001 Company, 375 Thomaston Avenue in Waterbury, and The Chase Collegiate School, 565 Chase Parkway in Waterbury.

For information about the tour including special tour hours and directions to all tour sites, visit SolarConnecticut.org.

There is no cost to visit any of the installation sites.p
