Conant's 'Water Views' To Fill Walls Of Church Hill Road Day Spa
Newtown artist Joanne Conant will present a summer art show, "Water Views," at Avance Day Spa's AIR Gallery. Ms Conant's seascapes, according to curator Rosemary Rau, "echo with the sound of the surf and memories of walks on sandy beaches, mingled with countryscape paintings of tranquil, ponds, stream and marshes."
The show will be on view August 15 to September 30 at the day spa, within The Villages at Lexington Gardens, 32 Church Hill Road.
A Meet the Artist reception will be held on Sunday, September 17, from 11 am until 2 pm. All are welcome.
Ms Conant's use of oils as her medium is in harmony with her artist statement:
"I paint to emulate, to seek the essence of the subject and the moment. I hope to capture those small moments, not so much to record but to construe the elements of the living earth: Clouds moving with the wind, waves in constant motion, the solidity of rock and the tranquility of trees and landscape."
Ms Conant earned a commercial arts degree from Minneapolis Technical Institute in Minnesota. She apprenticed with master enamelist Margaret Seeler for nearly two decades.
An award-winning artist, Ms Conant has had solo shows at Agora Restaurant inÃÂ Brookfield and Infinity Hall in Norfolk (2017); Brookfield Craft Center and Avance Day Spa (2016); and the Air in Residence Gallery (2015), in just the past few years alone.
Her paintings have been accepted into juried collections, including "The Thing of It Is" at Washington Art Association (2016).
Ms Conant, who also excels at enameled objects and teaches the art of enameling in her home studio, has had her oils be part of group exhibitions at The Roger Sherman Inn and Good News Cafe (2016), Artist in Residence in Newtown (2014-15), The Mattatuck Museum in Waterbury (2014), and member shows at Washington Art Association.
She was also part of the first exhibition when Avance opened the doors of its new location in 2016. Ten local artists, Ms Conant among them, were represented in "All About Newtown" when it opened in October 2016.
Gallery viewing hours are Tuesday and Thursday, 11 am to 8 pm; Wednesday, 10 am to 6 pm; Friday, 9 am to 6 pm; and Saturday, 9 am to 5 pm.
