Business background: Those who frequent the Sandy Hook Diner may have noticed a new friendly face behind the counter.
In the beginning of August, the well-known diner, located in the Sandy Hook Village, had its second reopening of the year, this time under the new ownership of Danbury resident Carlos Dos Santos.
When Mr Dos Santos started working at his uncle’s deli in Brazil at 9 years old, he learned from a young age the importance of a strong work ethic and great customer service.
Throughout his more than 30-year career in America, Mr Dos Santos has gained valuable business experience, like owning his own bakery, which led to his decision to open his very own deli.
After finding out the Sandy Hook Deli was for sale again this year, he came by and fell in love with the business and its picturesque location in Newtown.
The American-Italian deli is now family owned and operated, as his wife Cirlene and his children help with the day-to-day work, as well as working to create an online presence for the business that will be available for the public in the future.
Business focus: Mr Dos Santos says he is committed to keeping the integrity of the Sandy Hook Deli and does not want to change what had been established with previous owner, Artie Praino.
Instead of designing a whole new menu, he is focused on keeping all the staples customers love, but also adding more options.
In addition to the hot foods, breakfast items, and sandwiches, there is now a new salad bar available at the deli.
Customers can also now look forward to a wider selection of sweets to choose from. Mr Dos Santos is incorporating his bakery expertise and creating new desserts like cakes, flan, cookies, and chocolate treats.
In the future, Mr Dos Santos hopes to even incorporate a bakery at the deli to give customers even more options to enjoy.

As the new owner, he is here to add on to the menu and provide the best service to his customers.
The Sandy Hook Deli also provides take-out and catering options.

Hours: Monday through Friday, from 6 am to 4 pm; Saturday, 7 am to 4 pm; and Sunday 8 am to 3 pm.
