Bus Available For 'Newtown' Screening And Panel Discussion

MIDDLETOWN - CPTV and Independent Lens will present a free screening of Kim Snyder's documentary Newtown on Saturday, April 1. A panel discussion will follow, with confirmed speakers to include Marc Steiner, host, The Marc Steiner Show; Ms Snyder; Reverend Matt Crebbin, senior pastor, Newtown Congregational Church; Pastor Sam Saylor, vice president, National Gun Victims Action Council; and Mark Barden, founder and managing director, Sandy Hook Promise, and the father of one of the children killed on 12/14.Newtown uses personal testimonies to tell the story of the aftermath of 12/14. Through interviews with parents, teachers, doctors, and first responders, the film documents a community still reeling from the senseless killing, fractured by grief but driven toward a sense of purpose.cptv.org or bit.ly/NewtownCPTV.Newtown will premiere on CPTV on Monday, April 3, at 9 pm.

The program is expected to run from 3 to 5 pm. It will be presented in Ring Family Performing Arts Hall at Wesleyan University.

A 55-passenger bus is being organized to carry passengers from Newtown. The bus will pick up attendees at 1:30 pm, Saturday afternoon, from Newtown Congregational Church, 14 West Street. The bus will return travelers to that location following the screenings and panel discussion. Call the church office, 203-426-9024, to register for a seat.

Along with the filmmaker, local leaders and experts will participate in the moderated panel discussion focusing on community resilience and healing, and ways communities can work together to address gun violence.

The venue is at 283 Washington Terrace in Middletown.
