BRIDGEPORT – The Connecticut Wolfpack AAU 13-year-old team captured third place in the Connecticut State AAU Baseball Tournament and qualified for a berth in the national tournament to be held in West Virginia.

Matt Myslewski and Ronnie Shimko of Newtown play for The Pack.

The Pack qualified for the national tournament the hard way – losing four of their first five games in the Connecticut tournament before coming on strong in the final game to take third. In that game, the Pack defeated the Blaze, 10-4, after jumping out to a 6-0 lead and holding off the Blaze.

The Pack blew the game open with four runs in the bottom of the sixth – after the Blaze had cut the lead to 6-4 – with the big hit being a bases loaded double by Josh Giordano of Norwalk. Myslewski and Shimko each had two hits to fuel the 13-hit attack.

In the tournament opener, the Pack defeated the Blaze, 9-5. And in other games, the Pack fell to the Dawgs, 5-1, despite a strong pitching performance from Myslewski, and fell to Team Connecticut, 10-5.

The Wolfpack are based at The Cage in Bridgeport, an AAU training facility for baseball and softball players. The Cage fields three AAU baseball teams for players 13 to 15 years of age, offering year-round professional instruction in pitching, hitting, throwing and fielding.
