Blue Ribbon Floral Designer At Next Town & Country Meeting
Cathy Rich, a blue ribbon floral designer, instructor, and National Garden Club (NGC) judge, will demonstrate her floral design skills at the next meeting of The Town and Country Garden Club on Wednesday, November 8.
Ms Rich studied ikebana in Japan and floral design in France. She then worked for a florist in Germany, where she continued to learn more about plant materials.
Ms Rich brings an international perspective to her designs, which have won blue ribbons and top NGC design awards at previous Connecticut Flower and Garden Shows. Her work has been exhibited at the New Britain Museum of American Art's show "Floral Expressions." Photos of her designs have also been featured in The NGC Vision of Beauty Calendar.
Ms Rich is the general chair for "Breath of Spring," the 2018 Federated Garden Clubs of Connecticut (FGCCT) Annual Flower and Garden Show, which will be presented in February in Hartford.
Currently she leads FGCCT's Beyond Beginnings Floral Design workshops, which meet eight times per year to encourage and teach new and intermediate designers the fun and principles of creative floral design.
The Town and Country meeting will begin at 6:30 pm at Newtown Senior Center, 14 Riverside Road in Sandy Hook. Meetings are always free and open to the public.
The club will take a break for December and January. Programs will resume in February and will include "Underwater Floral Design," "Container Gardening - Inside and Out," "Shrubs and Bushes For Easy Gardening," and "Migratory Birds." Meetings are held on the second Wednesday of each month.
Reservations are not needed, but additional information is available by calling 203-426-5418 or visiting tcgardenclub.org.
