Police report that the latest local theft of an unsecured auto occurred about 7:42 am on Thursday, July 26, at Wheels gas station/convenience store at 67 Church Hill Road.

Police said that a white male, who was wearing a black hoodie-style sweatshirt with the word Adidas on the front and white striping on the sleeves, entered the convenience store and looked around, after which he exited the store and entered the front parking lot.

The man then entered an unlocked silver 2014 Honda Accord sedan, which was parked in front of the store with its engine running, after which the man drove the Honda away toward the nearby Exit 10 interchange of Interstate 84, police said. The Honda has Connecticut marker plate FBB-2692.

Police said the thief had arrived at Wheels in a dark-colored sedan, possibly a Lexus 250. The dark vehicle also left the scene heading toward I-84, police said. There were no injuries in the incident, police said.

Police ask anyone with knowledge of the incident to contact them at 203-426 5841.

The auto theft is the latest in a string of auto thefts in town and throughout the area in which criminals seize the opportunity to steal unlocked, unattended vehicles that have keys or key fobs within them.
