Last year, the Newtown Arts Festival hosted a 6x10 Play Festival. This year, the fourth annual arts festival will host an 8x10 Play Festival, taking place on Friday, September 18.

The event will consist of eight one act, 10-minute plays written (mainly) by Connecticut residents, and directed by directors from Newtown and surrounding communities, including some who have directed at Town Players.

Rehearsal schedules are flexible, and men and women of all ages are needed.

Auditions will take place Sunday, August 2, at 6:30 pm, at Thin Air, 153 South Main Street in Newtown. Enter the building by using the door in the front of the building that is furthest from the parking lot.

Newtown Cultural Arts Commission established the Newtown Arts Festival to promote and support local arts and the community through arts-inspired entertainment, education, exhibits, and sales. The festival showcases all forms of creative expression, such as visual arts, dance, music, written word, and theatre in the setting of a town-wide celebration.

Festival proceeds will again support grants and scholarships for local artists and arts organizations, future festivals, and other work of the Newtown Cultural Arts Commission.

Town Players of Newtown will continue their 80th anniversary season with a production of Bus Stop. Opening September 4, the show will be a Newtown Arts Festival event.
