St Rose of Lima School celebrated Catholic Schools Week, marked nationally from January 28 to February 3 this year, with a range of activities and events.
For St Rose of Lima School, the week began with an open house on January 28 and ended with Parent Appreciation Day on February 3. The school week began with SRS School Spirit Day, January 29, and students were encouraged to show their school spirit by wearing school colors. A pep rally that day included an annual pig race, with educators racing their class or department’s electronic stuffed animal pig against other contenders.
The next day was Hands and Hearts Day of Service at the school, and this year’s Monsignor Robert E. Weiss Hands & Hearts in the Community awardee, Todd Ingersoll, president and CEO of Ingersoll Automotive, visited the school to speak with sixth and eighth grade students.
Mr Ingersoll will be honored for the award at the Hands and Hearts in the Community Celebration on March 2. Tickets for the event are available at the school’s website, stroseschool.com. This is the third year the school will host its Hands & Hearts at the Community Service Award/Tuition Assistance Benefit Dinner. Each year a new awardee is chosen for demonstrating exemplary service to others, according to the school. For the first time the evening dinner and celebration will be held at the Fox Hill Inn in Brookfield. Tickets must be purchased in advance and are $125 a person. The deadline to purchase tickets is February 9. The event will begin at 6:30 pm. People interested in donating or sponsoring the event can also do that through the website, and book ads for a commemorative book for the event are also being sold online.
Also, during the Hands and Hearts Day of Service students stuffed gift bags to donate to local groups and programs.
Other Catholic Schools Week activities and programs at the school included celebrating a faculty and staff appreciation day, a faculty and staff basketball game, dancing when music was played throughout the day on January 31, a student talent show, and a “Breaking Barriers” presentation by school parent Leif Becker, a world record-holding martial artist for breaking karate boards.
