Aspiring GOP Primary Voters Face Deadlines

Newtown voters participating or wishing to participate in the August 9 Republican Primary are being advised of the following registration deadlines.Registrars of Voters Office, Thursday, August 4, is the cutoff for:Town of Newtown website to look up where to vote or call the registrars office at 203-270-4250. You can also link to the Secretary of the State's Office for information on registering online.

According to the local

*Online registration;

*Mail in registration (must be postmarked by August 4); and

*Registration cards brought to town clerk or registrar by someone else.

Monday, August 8, at noon, is the cutoff for:

*In person registrations in the registrar's office; and

*Receiving registration cards mailed in (postmarked no later than August 4).

These cutoffs apply to new registrations in Newtown and to voters wishing to join the Republican party that were currently registered as unaffiliated.

There is a 90-day waiting period to switch from one party to another. In Connecticut Independent affiliation is subject to the 90-day waiting period. Unaffiliated means you are not affiliated with any party including Independent.

By state statute all Newtown polling places must be open for primary voting.
