WATERBURY — The following arts events are scheduled in November at Naugatuck Valley Community College, which serves communities across western Connecticut, from Litchfield to Waterbury to Seymour to Southbury and Danbury.

On Tuesday, November 1, the Naugatuck Valley Community College Foundation will begin its first ever online auction to raise money for student tutoring programs.

The auction includes a variety of items donated to the foundation for the event, including tickets to the 42nd Street production at the Palace Theater in Waterbury, limited edition Louis Nichole Christmas ornaments, and a Norman Rockwell print.

Registration is required in order to bid and the bidding opens promptly at 8 am. To register or to see what’s available to bid on, click on Online Auction at www.nvcc.commnet.edu. For information, call 203-575-8045.

On Friday, November 4, NVCC will offer a master dance class in belly dancing, giving students from the college and the community the opportunity to learn from an instructor who has mastered the style.

The class will be held from 5:30 to 7 pm in Room A404 of the college’s Fine Arts Center, located on its main campus at 750 Chase Parkway. It will be taught by a teacher who goes by only her first name, Careesah. A student of Middle Eastern dance since 1999, Careesah has taught in the New Haven area for several years and specializes in many forms of belly dance, including Turkish Oriental, Gypsy, Lebanese, and Egyptian Raqs Sharqi.

Cost for the class is $10 and registration is required. Contact Elena Rusnak at 203-575-8179 or Erusnak@nvcc.commnet.edu.

NVCC’s newest theater ensemble, Theatre X, will offer three performances of William Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night Thursday through Sunday, November 10-12, Curtain will be at 8 pm each night at the college’s Playbox Theatre in its Fine Arts Center.

One of Shakespeare’s most youthful and wittiest comedies, Twelfth Night is full of mistaken identities, misdirected passions, high comedy, low tricks, and unexpected poignancy.

Tickets are $12 for adults, $10 for seniors and $6 for students. Reservations are strongly recommended due to the Playbox’s limited seating. For tickets, call the NVCC box office at 203-575-8193.

On Sunday, November 20, at 3 pm, Waterbury Symphony Orchestra will perform works by Bernstein, Beethoven, Barber and Bartók for its “Four Bs Bedazzle” concert. The performance will include Leonard Bernstein’s “Overture” to Candide, Ludwig Van Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No 1, Samuel Barber’s Music for A Scene from Shelley, and Béla Bartók’s Miraculous Mandarin Suite.

Wonny Song, the winner of the 2005 Young Concert Artists International Auditions in New York, will perform Beethoven’s concerto.

The concert will be in NVCC’s Fine Arts Center. Preferred seating is $40, reserved seating is $25, and student tickets are $5. Call 203-574-4283 for tickets or information.
