To the Editor:

I am writing to endorse Deborra Zukowski's candidacy for a seat on Newtown's Board of Education.

Debbie has become a close friend. We've sung together in the Newtown Choral Society for many years, and recently have met for a kaffeeklatsch at which we discuss many sorts of problems and issues, from personal to local to national. Although we don't necessarily agree on every matter, we respect each other's differences. I've especially come to value her engineer's practical problem-solving attitude and her high ethical standards.

We are both parents of grown children who graduated from Newtown's excellent schools. I can say, with complete confidence, that Debbie is not the kind of person whose interest in education ground to a halt the instant her youngest child left the school system. She believes that each succeeding generation of Newtown's children deserves the same quality education that their predecessors enjoyed. We can trust her to be a strong and effective advocate for future students, even in the face of declining state payments.

It is my hope that Deborra Zukowski will be allowed to bring her unique combination of talents and abilities to the Board of Education.
