SMART Camp Program Director Stephanie Cardwell welcomed parents in attendance for the event and explained that along with all of the artwork the students would be taking home with them that day, three of SMART's classes prepared presentations to demonstrate what the students have learned.

"This is our session one showcase," said Ms Cardwell.

The first session of SMART ran from July 3 to 14. The second session of SMART began on July 17. SMART offers classes in art, theater, science, and more. SMART was held at Sandy Hook Elementary School this year, and the showcase was staged in the school's cafetorium.

For the showcase students who took the Fashion Design class, a fashion show displayed their outfits handmade from newspaper. Each student walked out to the stage and posed before continuing to walk toward the audience. Hannah Eckhardt instructed the class.

Three "Fun with Drums" classes, led by Brian Kowalsky, offered renditions of songs played on buckets. The first class played their buckets to the song "Under Pressure" by Queen, the second played along to "Something Just like This" by The Chainsmokers and Coldplay, and the third class played along to "I'm Shipping Off to Boston" by the Dropkick Murphys.

The final presentation of the showcase was an original play by the students in the Theater and Performance classes, overseen by instructors Emily Anderson and Sean Watkins.

The performers acted out a mystery that involved jewelry stolen from a dinner party.

All of the student performances received applause from the packed audience.
