A Concert For Young People And Their Families
DANBURY â Danbury Music Centre presents its annual âConcert for Young Peopleâ on Sunday, February 8, at 3 pm, at Ives Concert Hall, 181 White Street.
The free, one-hour concert is for school-age children and their families. The theme of this yearâs performance is âGotta Dance!â
Danbury Symphony Orchestra, under the direction of music director and conductor David Katz, will perform music of the dance including the Symphonic Dances from West Side Story by Leonard Bernstein.
Guest ballet dancers Roddy Doble from Southbury and Jessica Cipriano from Bridgewater, both 14 years old, will dance the Emperor Waltz by Johannes Strauss, Jr. The familiar waltz has been choreographed by Mr Doble, who performed in the recent holiday seasonâs Danbury Music Centre Nutcracker Ballet as The Cavalier. He and Jessica both study at the School of Performing Arts in New Milford.
Another featured young artist will be 13-year old pianist Remy Zhang, a winner in Danbury Music Centreâs second annual concerto competition. Mr Zhang lives in Danbury and is an eighth grade student at Wooster School. He is a piano student of Edith Gallucci Sullivan, who has a private piano studio in Danbury.
Mr Zhang will perform the first movement from Schumannâs Piano Concerto in A minor.
School children will enjoy this yearâs new addition to the Young Peopleâs Concert â âMeet Your Teachers Behind The Instruments.â Area music teachers who perform with Danbury Symphony Orchestra will go into the audience to demonstrate their instruments.
Admission to the concert is free for all ages. For additional information call Danbury Music Centre at 748-1716.
