Virginia E. O’Brien

Virginia E. (Moore) O’Brien, a longtime Yonkers resident, died March 19 at Montefiore Hospital in the Bronx. She was 74 years old. On March 17, 1951, she married John F. O’Brien in Yonkers. Mr O’Brien died on August 10, 1978.

Survivors include one daughter, Patricia O’Brien-Winn and her husband Gary of Newtown; two sons, Michael T. O’Brien and his wife Pat of Beaumont, Texas, and Kevin O’Brien of Yonkers, N.Y. She is also survived by her six grandchildren, Michael, Megan, Maureen, Joseph, Christopher, and Daniel.

She was born on October 9, 1929, to Richard and Delia White Moore in New Haven, where she was raised and educated. She graduated from the Nursing School at St Joseph’s Hospital in Yonkers.

Mrs O’Brien was a licensed practical nurse at St Joseph’s Hospital for several years. She then practiced as a nurse at the Ferncliff Manor Home in Yonkers for 20 years until her retirement in 1998.

Mrs O’Brien’s hobbies included her nursing career, Irish history, reading, and watching movie classics.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated in Christ the King Church March 24. Interment followed at Mt Hope Cemetery in Hastings-on-Hudson, N.Y.
