The Plane, The Plane!
The Plane, The Plane!
Once again, one of the most thrilling highlights of the Labor Day Parade in Newtown was not following the parade route but was hundreds of feet overhead. A B-17 Flying Fortress flew in tight circles over Main Street at the beginning of the parade, providing a lump-in-the-throat spectacle for the thousands of onlookers who were at that moment watching the huge 90 by 45-foot flag being hoisted above the parade in front of Town Hall South. The parade flight of the vintage B-17 is arranged each year by Mike Fitzsimmons of Newtown. The plane took off shortly before the parade from Westchester Airport in White Plains and returned there after making several passes over the parade.                                                                                     âBee Photos, LaRosa
