NRTC Opens Campaign Headquarters On Main Street
Nearly 50 residents attended Newtown Republican Town Committeeâs grand opening of is 2005 headquarters at 33 Main Street, lower level, on Wednesday, September 28.
âBesides our town committee members and long-term Republican friends, we were also pleased to greet several newcomers,â said Jim Bernardi, campaign manager. He said that the headquarters would serve as a gathering place and distribution center for the 26 Republican candidates running for town offices in 2005, from the Board of Selectmen through various boards and commissions.
Bill Brimmer, currently regional vice president for Right Management Consultants, a human resources consulting firm, is running for a fifth term as selectman.
âBillâs fiscally conservative approach to town spending has served our community well,â said Carol Recht, Newtown RTC chairman.
âCindy Simon, running for her tenth term as town clerk, is often the first elected official new residents encounter in Edmond Town Hall,â said Mr Bernardi. She has run unopposed all but once.
For Legislative Council, Joseph DiCandido, Michael Iassogna, and Richard Recht are running for reelection in District One. Mr DiCandido, chairman of the councilâs Finance Committee and vice chairman of the Republican Town Committee, is running for his third term. He is president and founder of Nutek Aerospace Corporation in New Milford.
Mr Iassogna, co-owner of Tier-One in Newtown, is running for his third term.
Richard Recht, a human resources consultant, was first elected to the council in 2003. He is proprietor of Longview Tree Farm on Tunnel Road.
Joe Borst, an eight-term incumbent who has held numerous responsibilities in town government, is running for reelection in District Two. Also running are Barbara Bloom, a financial representative and lifelong resident of Sandy Hook, Stacie Doyle, a newcomer with a background in business and finance, and Pat Llodra, former Board of Education member and interim principal of Newtown High School.
In District Three, David Brown, a retired accountant and instructor at Housatonic Community College, is running for a second term. Jeffrey Capeci, an engineer and NRTC publicity director, is running for the first time. Will Rodgers, a local attorney and current chairman of the Legislative Council, is running for his fifth term.
Rounding out the slate are Board of Finance candidates Joe Kearney, John Kortze, currently board chairman, and Harrison Waterbury. Elaine McClure, Board of Education chairman, is running for a third term. Barbara Jane Brymer is running for full a seat on the Planning and Zoning Commission. Current P&Z alternate Robert Mulholland and Dennis Bloom are both running for P&Z alternate seats.
Barbara OâConnor seeks another term on the Zoning Board of Appeals. Tim Cronin and Laurie Wrabel are running for reelection as ZBA alternates. Carol Mattegat, current chairman of the Board of Police Commissioners, is running for another term. Marianne Brown is running for a Republican seat on the Board of Assessment Appeals. Kathy Madzula and incumbent Sandy Motyka are running for election to the Board of Town Hall Managers.
âAny Republicans interested in getting involved with the campaign are welcome to attend our town committee meetings on the second Monday of the month at the Senior Center at 7:30 pm,â said Carol Recht, NRTC chairman. She said that the October 10 meeting would take place in the Lower Meeting Room of Edmond Town Hall because the Senior Center is closed on Columbus Day.
