Garner Prisoner Arrested On Assault Charge
About 9 pm January 5, state police arrested an inmate in Garner Correctional Institution on a charge of assault on a correction officer.
State police said that inmate Stephen Freeman, 33, allegedly assaulted a correction officer, kicking him in the chest. The correction officer broke his hand in attempting to restrain Freeman, state police said.
Freeman was scheduled for arraignment on the charge on January 6 in Danbury Superior Court.
Freeman is serving a 1½-year sentence in the high security prison on a conviction for third degree assault, according to the state Department of Correction.
