Marion Bernadette Yost Ray
Marion Bernadette Yost Ray, 85, of Chestertown, Md., a former Newtown resident, died peacefully, November 10, in Heron Point in Chestertown. She was born and raised in Ambler, Penn.
Her husband, Ronald Lee Ray, North East, Md.; five children and their spouses, Preston and Deanna Ray of Sandy Hook, Karen and Glenn Hollis of Breckenridge, Colo., Gretchen and Bill Mills of Voorhees, N.J., Douglas Ray and Sue Brown of Methuen, Mass., and Karl Ray of Colorado Springs, Colo.; her sister, Nanette Fluck, Warminster, Penn.; and four grandchildren survive Mrs Ray.
At just 4 feet, 11 inches, she had to stand on her tiptoes to pass the University of Pennsylvania entrance height requirement. She proudly graduated with her RN degree in 1949. She met her husband and graduated from the University of California at Berkeley with her bachelor degree in 1957. She enjoyed her long career working in a wide range of nursing settings, and ended her career working in hospice.
Mrs Ray loved to garden, and created beautiful landscapes in each of the eight states in which she lived. She adored her family and tried to pass along her love of social justice and activism. She made friends through her volunteer activities in PTA, local libraries, and the YMCA.
A memorial service will take place Saturday, November 24, at noon, in St Andrews United Methodist Church, 327 Marlton Pike, Cherry Hill N.J.
