DUI Charge
Police said they responded to a report of a problem at the intersection of Miya Lane and Cherry Street in Sandy Hook on the afternoon of January 1.
On investigating, police said they gave motorist Jeffrey Stanton, 53, of 15 Miya Lane a set of standardized field sobriety tests. Police said they then charged Stanton with driving under the influence.
After processing the case, police released Stanton on $100 bail for a January 15 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.
Sedan Hits Pole
Motorist Ryan C. Nezvesky, 27, of 9 Old Town Road told police that he was driving a 2002 Acura TL sedan on Boggs Hill Road, near its intersection with Spring Road, early on the morning of December 28, when he veered in order to avoid colliding with a deer in the roadway, but then struck a utility pole while making the maneuver, damaging the pole, police said.
Following the collision, Nezvesky drove the damaged auto to his home and then informed police at 3:14 am of the incident, police said.
Nezvesky was not injured in the collision, police said. Police said they issued Nezvesky an infraction for making a restricted turn.
Moving Violations
Police said that while on patrol about 10 pm January 5, they stopped motorist Brian Duffy, 21, of 3 Tanglewood Lane on South Main Street, near Lovellâs Lane, because the vehicle that he was driving had a headlamp that was not lit.
After investigating, police charged Duffy with failure to have a working headlamp and with driving with a suspended license.
Police said they released Duffy on a written promise to appear in court on January 21.
Mailbox Hit
Police report that at about 8:30 pm January 4, an unknown vehicle that was traveling eastward on Riverside Road went off the right side of the road and struck a curbside residential mailbox in front of 100 Riverside Road, knocking down the mailbox, after which the vehicle left the scene.
 Police provided no description of the offending vehicle. Police ask anyone with information on the incident to contact the police telephone tip line at 270-8888.
