Community Contra Dance
Community Contra Dance
WASHINGTON â Put on your dancing shoes and join the fun at a community contra dance at Bryan Memorial Town Hall to benefit Relay For Life of Shepaug Valley.
On Saturday, April 11, from 7 to 9 pm, Patricia Campbell, a dance caller from Newtown, will lead attendees in traditional dances to the live music of The Reel Thing.
The group is a western Connecticut-based band of four professional musicians on guitar, bass, fiddle, accordion, flute, piccolo, and saxophone. They will play a variety of New England contra dance tunes, many with Celtic or French Canadian roots, and other traditional dance music.
For those who are unfamiliar the dance steps needed for the evening, Ms Campbell will demonstrate and call the steps so anyone can learn to do the circle, âlongways,â square and folk dances.
Attendees will be asked to make a donation to Relay For Life. The town hall is on Route 47 in the heart of Washington Depot.
