Occupation: I am a doctor of chiropractic. I have a degree in whole food nutrition, as well, and I am certified in ART for soft tissue injuries.

Family: I’m the youngest in the family. My older brother, Bene, is an artist in Brooklyn. My mother, Claudia, is an interior designer of Coopersmith Design, and I’m honored to join my father, Dr Richard Coopersmith, who has been a chiropractor here for 33 years, at Newtown Chiropractic.

Pets: I have always had a special place in my heart for all kinds of animals. I have had three awesome dogs: Bartholomew the sheep dog, Susie the golden retriever, and Rigatoni, the wonder dog. I mean, cocker spaniel. At this time, due to my busy schedule, I don’t think it would be fair to have a dog.

How long have you lived in Newtown? I am born and raised in Newtown. I graduated from Newtown High School in 2001, then went to Northeastern University, graduating in 2005, and then to New York Chiropractic College. I returned to Newtown two years ago.

What do you like to do in your free time? My free time consists of volunteering and hiking, which sometimes falls into the same thing. I am on the board of directors for the Newtown Forest Association, and last year created a new hiking trail on the Brunot Preserve off of Taunton Hill road. I also give guided tours of the NFA properties once a month. I’m involved with FAITH Food Pantry, getting resources for things like toiletries and dry goods, and those things that we tend to take for granted.

Do you have a favorite book? I like anything written by Bill Bryson. I think A Walk In The Woods and A Short History of Nearly Everything are two of my favorites.

Do you have a favorite travel destination? I like the experience of traveling more than the destination. I like everything from hiking in the Rockies and White Mountains — the Presidential Range is one of my favorites — to underwater scuba diving in the Caribbean and Gulf of Mexico.

What is the best thing about Newtown? Though Newtown has grown over the years I still feel it has that small town feel. It’s like Cheers, “Where everyone knows your name.” Whether strolling into My Place for a slice [of pizza] or the Booth Library, there is that nice, smiley feel.

If you could spend a day with anyone, whom would you choose? I would like to spend the day with John Muir. He is the founder of the Sierra Club and responsible for so much open space in the US, specifically, Yosemite.

Who has been the greatest influence in your life? I cannot define it as one person. My family defines me. It is the love for my mother, my brother, and my father, with their love, kindness, and guidance that has made me the man I am today.

Do you have a personal philosophy? Balance is the secret, the balance of pleasure and work. I am fortunate that they are one and the same, for me.

Do you have a guilty pleasure? My mother is an amazing cook. And the fridge is always packed full of very tasty things. One of my guilty pleasures is to raid the fridge, take everything out, call a few buddies over and dig in. It is killer.
