Concert Series Gearing Up
For McLevy Green Performances
BRIDGEPORT â International Performing Arts has announced the artists who will perform for the 11th Annual Summer Sounds of the World concert series schedule. Concerts take place at McLevy Green, on the corner of State and Main Streets in downtown Bridgeport.
Performances are Fridays at 6 pm.
The series will begin on August 8 with Olu Dara, who plays his own brand of music which is a fusion based on the blues but containing elements of African, Caribbean, R&B and jazz. He accompanies himself on the trumpet, guitar and harmonica, and has been entertaining audiences around the world for over 30 years.
Patty Larkin will continue the performances on August 15. Starting at a young age, Ms Larkin became fascinated by the pop and folk of the 1960s, and began experimenting with guitar playing and songwriting. Today, after thousands of performances, she has earned a reputation as one of the brightest talents in American music.
Daria Musk and Larissa DeLorenzo will each offer solo performances prior to Ms Larkinâs full show.
Then on August 22, city residents and music lovers alike will welcome Odetta for the series finale.
After over 50 years and 27 albums, Odetta has sung for American Presidents, walked with Civil Rights leaders, and impacted the music of three generations of musicians. Her remarkably flexible voice and her guitar skills have made her one of the most celebrated figures in music, and her performances run the gamut between traditional blues and folk and more modern styles.Â
Renard Boissiere will open the performance will his own set at 6 pm.
Admission to the concerts is free thanks to funding by the Connecticut Council on Culture and Tourism.
Attendees should bring their own chairs or blankets for seating.
