Donald S. Batt, 65 of Dekalb, N.Y., a former Newtown resident, died October 3 at his home, after a long struggle with cancer.
He is survived by his wife Linda; their three children and spouses; five grandchildren; a brother; and a sister.
He was a Special Agent with the FBI for 26 years, assigned to the Boston and New Haven offices.Â
Mr Batt enjoyed the scouting program as a boy, and then became an assistant leader when his sons were Boy Scouts in Newtown.
He and his wife moved to Dekalb from Newtown after he retired from the FBI in 1995. Together they ran âNorthcountrees,â their choose-and-cut Christmas tree farm. He was a beekeeper for more than 30 years and brought his hives with him when he relocated.
A memorial service will be held at 2 pm, Sunday, October 11, at the Fox & Murray Funeral Home, 528 Franklin Street, Ogdensburg, N.Y. Everyone is invited back to the house after the service.
Mr Batt had sponsored the education of children in Haiti through the Lansing United Methodist Church and asked that in lieu of flowers contribution checks be made in his memory to LUMC Haiti and sent to Holly Hardie, 31 Holden Road, Lansing NY 14882.
