Newtown High School’s varsity football game, originally to be played on Friday, October 9, has been rescheduled for Monday, October 12, because of the threat of thunderstorms, Newtown High School Athletic Director Gregg Simon announced, on Friday morning.

The Nighthawks and Bunnell of Stratford Bulldogs will play at 7 pm in a Columbus Day clash, under the lights at Blue & Gold Stadium. Newtown comes into the matchup with a 4-0 record, and Bunnell is 2-2.

During the game, Newtown High is hosting a fundraiser in support of the American Cancer Society and Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and fans are encouraged to wear pink.

Additionally, the Newtown High wrestling team will collect food for the FAITH Food Pantry. The following items are needed: Cereal, coffee, tea, hot chocolate, cookies, cake mix, and frosting.

Hunter Cobb runs with the ball during a game this season. Cobb and the Nighthawks had their October 9 game against Bunnell postponed because of the threat of thunderstorms. The game has been rescheduled for Monday, October 12 at Blue & Gold Stadium; kickoff is set for 7 pm.
