*Tickets are going on sale Saturday morning for BRUCE HORNSBYâs next show in Connecticut. Itâs been a while, hasnât it? Hornsby had added Wednesday, November 15, to his itinerary, sandwiched between stops in Richmond, Va., the previous night and then Burlington, Vt., the following night. Tickets for the show are $28.50. Oakdale will have its box office open at 10 am for in-person purchases, and the theatreâs direct charge line will also open at that time (call 203/265-1501). The third option is to go online and purchase tickets at tickets.com. There is no opener for this show, which is simply âAn Evening with Bruce Hornsby.â
*SAMMY HAGARâs Halloween show at The Webster Theatre has been postponed, without a make-up date yet announced. Interestingly, the theatreâs web site was still listing the date on its active calendar as of the middle of this week even though the first six dates of Hagarâs upcoming tour â The Cabo Wabo Birthday Bash Tour, of which the Webster was to be the opening night on â have all been postponed for âunspecified reasons,â according to the Hagar camp.
The tour is to celebrate Hagarâs 53rd birthday and the release of a new album, Ten 13, which was the date of his birthday. The album will be in stores next Tuesday (Oct 24), and is the first on Hagarâs new label, Cabo Wabo Music. The tour will now kick off on November 11 in Phoenix, Ariz., is set to continue through December 3, and promoters are saying all of the original six starting dates will be made up, so hang on to those Webster tickets if you already have them.
*DEE SNIDER has also been forced to postpone his show, which was going to be last Saturday at City Limits in Waterbury. Unfortunately the delay comes in response to a family emergency.
The radio 104 morning DJ will now be playing on Saturday, November 4, and tickets are still available. Tickets are $15 for age 21 and over, $18 for those under 21, and will be available at the door or through TicketMaster if you want to pick them up in advance. Doors are scheduled to open at 8 pm. The club is at 57 East Main Street in Waterbury; call City Limits directly for additional info, 203/757-7961.
*I would really like to understand how Foxwoods can continue to advertise the upcoming Halloween performance by ALICE COOPER as, as this continues to appear in capitol letters in print advertising, Cooperâs âonly area appearance.â My confusion stems from the fact Cooper played at the Oakdale this week, on October 19. I donât get it.
Aside from that, the Ledyard concert venue (and casino, of course) will play host to the Connecticut return by MACY GRAY next month. The chart-topper will be back on November 11, with Common and Black Eyed Peas both playing opening sets. Showtime is 9 pm, and all tickets are $55 (available through TicketMaster. COMMON happens to have a headlining gig at Toadâs Place in New Haven on October 30, by the way.
*The good news this week is DAVE MATTHEWS BAND is getting back on the road before the end of the year. The bad news, of course, is we wonât be seeing the guys back in Hartford during the just-announced tour. The band has dates in New York (Pepsi Arena in Albany on December 9), Massachusetts (Fleet Center, Boston, December 11), back to New York City (Madison Square Garden, December 12 and 13), out to Rhode Island (Providence Civic Center, December 16), and then down to Pennsylvania (First Union Center, Philadelphia, December 17).
After briefly abandoning the studio, the band is back recording a new album with a new producer, and has announced a new tour to accompany the project. DMB switched producers on its as-yet-untitled album, and went into a Los Angeles studio on October 9 with Glen Ballard (a man who helped make ALANIS MORISSETTE famousâ¦) at the helm after pulling the plug on earlier Virginia recording sessions with Steve Lillywhite. The band is hoping to have the album wrapped by mid-November and in stores by February. This timeline allows them to warm up for the road trip that kicks off December 3 at the Target Center in Minneapolis.
I suppose if there is any consolation for those of us in Connecticut who adore this band it is the fact that even if we were to see them in December, the new album wonât be out yet so we wouldnât know any of the new material. But perhaps the tour will be such a great success that the band will decide to stay on the road, return to the Northeast, and include Hartford next time around.
*And finally this week, fresh from the spoof/satire of the freshest round of Taco Bell commercials â they say satire is the most sincere form of flattery of all, or something like that⦠â the subject of said commercials, THE KNACK, will be at Mohegan Sun Casino on Friday, October 27. This apparently is replacing the previously-scheduled show by MEN AT WORK. Howâs that for a scary kick-off to the Halloween weekend??!
Until next week, Iâll be seeing you... on the road, hoping for better DMB news.
