FAITH RINGGOLD WILL GIVE TALK AT BROOKLYN MUSEUM JUNE 2

avv/lsb set 5/14 #699832

BROOKLYN, N.Y. — Faith Ringgold, the award-winning painter, mixed media sculptor, performance artist, activist and author, will speak at the Brooklyn Museum on Saturday, June 2, in conjunction with the recent opening of the Elizabeth A. Sackler Center for Feminist Art.

Ringgold’s lecture, “Anyone Can Fly!,” will be from 2 to 4 pm, in the Iris and B. Gerald Cantor auditorium. An art-making project follows in the Beaux-Arts Court; participants are invited to create their own quilt square inspired by the talk.

Tickets are free with museum admission and are available the day of the event at the Visitor’s Center on a first-come, first-served basis. Museum admission is a suggested donation of $8 for adults and $4 for seniors and students with valid ID. Seating for the event is limited.

Best known for her painted story-quilts, art that combines painting, quilted fabric and storytelling, Ringgold has also written several popular children’s books. An early advocate of equality in the art world, Ringgold helped pressure museums to accept the work of women. She is the founder of Women Artists and Students for Black Liberation, an organization that supports black women artists.

The Brooklyn Museum is at 200 Eastern Parkway. For information, 718-638-5000 or www.brooklynmuseum.org.
