A Tribute To Lorraine Hansberry

WATERBURY — Members of the staff and student body of Naugatuck Valley Community College will pay homage to an African-American woman who has had a major influence on American theater when a community theater “Tribute to Lorraine Hansberry” is staged at Mattatuck Museum Performing Arts Center on Saturday, September 16, at 2 pm.

Members of the college’s staff and student body will perform script-in-hand readings from three of Miss Hansberry’s works, including The Sign in Sidney Brustein’s Window, about New York Bohemians; Les Blancs, about the emergence of an African nation; and her most remembered work, the landmark A Raisin in the Sun, about the trials of a black family in 1950s Chicago.

The performance will be both an entertaining and educational experience for the community. Admission is $6.

The Mattatuck Museum is at 144 West Main Street in Waterbury. Call 203/753-0381, extension 10 for additional information.
