With Watercolor
âAddressing Frequent Problems In Watercolor,â a lecture/demonstration by Marija Pavlovich McCarthy, will be hosted by the Society of Creative Arts of Newtown (SCAN) on Wednesday, May 14, at 7:30 pm.
The program is open to the public and will be at Newtown Meeting House, at 31 Main Street (at the flagpole) in Newtown. Admission is free.
Ms McCarthy, a popular art critic for SCAN, is a lifelong educator and painter. She has exhibited both oils and watercolors for many years but it is her unique understanding of watercolor which she will be sharing with SCANâs audience.
Her techniques and her degree of control were all discovered during the process itself. Ms McCarthyâs work expresses a creative moment with purity and transparence. She practices and teaches the importance of contrasts in art.
A Connecticut painter and educator, Ms McCarthy was born in Yugoslavia. Early training in her native country coupled with solid instruction at both the Corcoran School of Art and George Washington University provided the educational foundation for her work.
Ms McCarthy teaches landscape painting at Washington Art Association and is an active member of the New England Watercolor Society, Copley Society of Boston, Connecticut Watercolor Society, and the New Haven Paint and Clay Club.
She is currently having a solo exhibit of watercolors and oils at Woodbury Fine Art and Antiques, 473 Main Street South in Woodbury.
