Ricci’s Sponsoring Cut-A-Thon

For Kevin’s Community Center

Kevin’s Community Center, Inc (KCC), a nonprofit medical clinic dedicated to providing free healthcare to Newtown area residents over the age of 18, will be this year’s beneficiary of the Ricci’s Salon and Spa Cut-A-Thon fundraiser on Monday, April 6. At a cost of $25 a head, men, women and children can receive professional haircuts from the salon’s top stylists. All proceeds will directly support Kevin’s Community Center.

“We selected Kevin’s Community Center as the beneficiary of this year’s cut-a-thon because in these uncertain times, the health care system will be taxed to the utmost,” said Dan Riccio, proprietor of Ricci’s Salon. “We thought that this year the funds from the cut-a-thon would be better used [by Kevin’s Community Center] to make sure everyone’s health care needs in the community are taken care of.”

In Connecticut, one in every eight people is uninsured, with more joining the ranks every year. Since it first opened its doors in 2003, Kevin’s Community Center has had more than 2,700 patient visits and provided more than $1.8 million in free medical services.

The clinic provides personalized health care, incorporating medical diagnosis and treatment as well as personal support. It relies on a volunteer network of physicians, nurses and other clinic staff to deliver these services.

“Many thanks to Dan and his talented staff for this wonderful gift to Kevin’s Community Center. It comes at an especially meaningful time given the economic challenges and uncertainties families are facing,” said Linda Pinckney RN, KCC’s clinic director. “The proceeds will directly help the clinic continue its mission of providing free primary medical and preventative care to uninsured residents in our community.”

Sweets and refreshments will be served to customers at the event which will run from 3 to 8 pm. Appointments are highly recommended, but walk-ins are welcome. Appointments can be made by calling the salon at 426-1611.
