In the future, who will be the nurturers and who will be the workers? Can societyâs ills be remedied by governmental intervention into private lives? These are the questions Brookfield author Carol Frei tackles in her first novel, Snowblind, published in January of this year.
Snowblind takes place in the year 2070, following years of societal decline in America. The premise of the book is a future populated by âworkersâ and ânurturers.â Workers are allowed to marry, but are sterilized at age 10. Nurturers can marry, but are professional parents, based on testing at age 2 to determine their predisposition toward parenting.
A social/science fiction novel, the book touches on issues of parental and governmental rules, as well as the issue of racism.
The novel combines science fiction with a bit of cloak and dagger when the main character discovers a plot of ethnic and racial cleansing is behind the controlled society.
Ms Frei will be at the C.H. Booth Library on Thursday evening, June 8 to discuss her novel at 7:30 pm in the meeting room.
Snowblind is available at Borders.com, PublishAmerica.com and BarnesAndNoble.com, and is also available at the C.H. Booth Library. The 188-page paperback sells for $19.95.
