Hawley Celebrates
National Book Week
On Wednesday, November 15, Hawley School celebrated National Book Week by inviting guest readers into the classrooms to promote literacy and the joys of reading.
Some readers were from the Newtown community, but others came from a bit further away. Steve Hine from the Bridgeport Bluefish joined one fourth grade class.
Mr Hine not only promoted the importance of reading, but he spoke about the need for teamwork and good citizenship, a central philosophy at Hawley School.
Principal Jo-Ann Peters and the Hawley staff expressed gratitude to their guest readers for making the day special for the children. Those who volunteered to read were Dr Evan Pitkoff, Marie Walker, Roseanne Loring, Bob Merola, Andrew Buzzi, Lisa Schwartz, Linda Ballerini, Stacy Olszewski, Isabel Texiera, Maureen Jobson, Lana Meloni, Dr John Reed, Dana Schubert, Laurie Borst, and Steve Hine.
