Birds From The Hand

ROXBURY — An exhibit of works on paper by Audrey Anastasi and sculpture by Deborah Menzell Dressler will open with a reception at Minor Memorial Library, 23 South Street, on Saturday, January 10, from 2 to 4 pm. “Birds from The Hand” will then continue during regular library hours through Monday, February 23: Mondays from noon to 7 pm; Wednesdays, 10 am to 7 pm; Thursdays and Friday, 10 am to 5 pm; and Saturdays, 10 am to 2 pm.

Ms Anastasi is an established artist who has won many awards and exhibited her work throughout the New York metropolitan area and in various galleries along the East Coast. Reacting to the Exxon Valdez tragedy, she has created monotypes and enhanced them with watercolors, graphite, colored pencils, gold leaf and other media in order to increase the intensity of her images.

In reviewing her work, critics have referred to her “vivid imagination” and her “uncanny ability to draw and perceive uncommonly well.”

Ms Dressler combines ledge rocks with wire or polymer clay studded with glass beads to form charming, unique sculptures. The rocks, gathered from Roxbury and around the world, are used as Nature presented them, save for the twists of wire.

The public is invited to the opening reception. The library is handicapped-accessible and refreshments will be served. Call 860-350-2181 for information and directions.
