Women’s Center Offers Support For Men,

Hotline Training

DANBURY — “Voices of Courage” is a free and confidential ten-week evening support group for adult male survivors of any form of sexual assault.

This closed, facilitated group will provide a safe place for the adult male survivor to explore and share his experiences, learn from others, and continue to heal and grow. It will address topics such as anger, dealing with flashbacks, guilt, relationships, recovery, and moving on.

The first session of “Voices of Courage” begins Monday, October 5. Registration is required.

In other news, the fall dual domestic violence and sexual assault hotline certification training schedule for prospective Women’s Center volunteers has been announced by Volunteer Coordinator Chrissy Deep.

This 40-hour training certifies volunteers to perform crisis intervention at the center during business hours or from home when the center is closed. Evening training classes will begin Wednesday, September 23, and continue through mid-November.

Last year, the Women’s Center of Greater Danbury responded to more than 1,500 sexual assault and domestic violence hotline calls, in addition to providing emergency shelter, counseling services, advocacy services, community education and prevention programs, and information and referral services.

More than 21,000 clients in the greater Danbury area were served by the center’s programs in 2008.

Call 731-5200 for more information, or to register for any of these sessions, or visit: www.WomensCenterofGreaterDanbury.org.
