NHS To Offer Dinner And Three One-Act Plays

Newtown High School Theater Production 2 and Advanced Culinary students are teaming up to offer dinner and entertainment for audience members on Thursday, June 9, when three one-act plays will take to the stage in the school’s new cafetorium space at 7 pm.

Tickets for both dinner and the theater productions cost $25. Reservations are required by calling 203-270-6120. According to theater production instructor Tom Swetts, the four-course dinner will be served to guests between showings of the three one-act plays. Appetizers will be served before the first play, salad before the second play, the main course before the third play, and dessert will round out the night.

A regular showing, without dinner, of the three one-act plays will also be shown on Saturday, June 11, starting at 7 pm. Adult tickets to Saturday’s performance will cost $5, and student tickets are $3.

The three one-act plays chosen and performed by Theater Production 2 students are Archie’s in Love, Anna & August, and Cliques and Cafeterias. The theme of “Teenagers” was chosen when selecting the three plays. Archie’s in Love was adapted from its radio show format for the stage to tell the story of the main character’s unfortunate crush on a new teacher. Anna & August is a comedy about multiple love triangles. Cliques and Cafeterias shows the everyday drama that unfolds between middle school-aged students.

NHS graphics students also contributed to the productions, including Brittany Boggs and Sarah Desrosiers who co-designed the marketing pamphlets, posters, and more.
