*Alaska – There and Back: Artist Marja Gina Prewitt will be exhibiting drawings and paintings in the library’s lower meeting room through July 31.

The artwork is a unique interpretation of Native American “transformations,” which show ties to native American culture that are very strong.

Programs For Young Adults

*YA BookTalk: Let’s talk about The Underland Chronicles by Suzanne Collins, which includes Gregor the Overlander, Gregor and the Prophecy of Bane, Gregor and the Curse of the Warmbloods, and Gregor and the Marks of Secret.

Join us on Wednesday, July 12. from 1 to 2 pm, at Reed School’s Media Center.

*Roll out more fun with Duct Tape III!

Our popular duct tape crafts program returns on Wednesday, July 19, from 2 to 4 pm.  Katie Stevenson will be leading the group in several projects including cell phone or iPod holders, ties, sandals, wallets, purses, sun visors, and accessories. It is limited to 15 students age 10 and up (rising grades 5-12), with preference given to Newtown residents.

There is a $6 supply fee, payable at signup, which can be done at the library’s main floor circulation desk or by calling 426-4533.

Adult Programs

*Sounds Of Summer: Join us at The Pleasance, at the corner of Main Street and Sugar Street, for three free concerts this summer.

Picnic under the stars with friends and neighbors. Bring your own blankets or low lawn chairs for seating. Concerts begin at 7 pm.

The 2006 series will open this weekend with a performance by In Harmony on Saturday, July 15. The music continues on Friday, August 18, with Goldrush, and then concludes on Friday, September 8, with The Golden Angel Jazz Band.

In the event of rain on any of the concert dates, the shows will move into the lower meeting room at the library.

*Indie Film Series: Films return to the lower meeting room for free screenings on August 8 with Spare Parts. Screenings begin at 7:30 and are free of charge.

Later offerings in the series will be Campfire on November 14, and Hawaii, Oslo on December 12.

*Book Discussions: The next discussion is planned for Monday, August 14, at 1 pm, when readers will talk about The Djinn in the Nightingale’s Eye by A.S. Byatt.

*Book Nook Notes: Suffering from the post Book Sale Blues? The Book Nook is exploding with great summer reading choices for readers of all ages. A special collection of American President biographies is being featured this month; beautiful hard covers  for your home library.
