Lisa Schang scored 26 points and grabbed 11 rebounds as Walsh Logging rallied past The Gym at Newtown in the final four minutes, recording a 56-50 win and improving to 6-0 in The Gym at Newtown Womenâs Basketball League.

Jen Dayton dropped in 14 points, including a pair of three-pointers as Jen Zdziarski added 10 points (with a pair of treys) and nine rebounds. For The Gym, Jaime Murphy and Jennifer Thomas combined for 33 points and 23 rebounds. Janet Duffey chipped in nine points, while Mel Darrah and Christy Hardy combined for eight points.

Maura Keenan scored 21 points and pulled down 14 rebounds while Denise Passano added 15 points and six steals to lead Colorgraphics to a 66-43 win over Newtown Mobil. Rachel McGrath and Colleen Ruiz combined for 26 points as Peg Bowers dropped in four points with eight rebounds. For Newtown Mobil, Amy Proulx had 16 points and seven rebounds while Karen Katrinak added 12 points and six blocks. Kelly Pinkney and Kathy Blewett combined for 15 points.

Shelby Neveriski canned 23 points and Tori Anderton added 14 more as Alpine Realty clipped Dr Gellert, 55-41. Kelly Fengler had a strong game with 10 points and 15 rebounds as Laurie Miller, Mary Gallucci and Bonnie Willlie combined for eight points. For Gellert, Jody Rajcula and Holly Ferguson combined for 27 points as Rajcula also grabbed 17 rebounds. Stephanie Trolle, Laura Cook and Jen Timpanelli combined for 14 points.

In previous action, Neveriski poured in 32 points and pulled down 11 rebounds as Alpine Realty blasted Colorgraphics, 64-38. Fengler added 11 points and 15 rebounds while Miller chipped in 11 points. For Colorgraphics, Ruiz had 13 points as Alex Heron and Passano chipped in 12 points each and combined for 15 rebounds.

The Gym at Newtown easily handed Dr Gellert a 61-44 loss as Murphy canned 22 points and Thomas added 17 more along with 17 rebounds. Duffey chipped in with eight points. For Gellert, Jen Timpanelli and Colleen Gregory dropped in 14 points apiece as Denise Brough added eight.

Schang popped in 24 points and Duncanson added 22 as Walsh Logging pounded Newtown Mobil, 76-44. Tracy Palella and Dayton combined for 21 points while Zdziarski added seven. For Mobil, Proulx canned 21 points with a pair of three pointers. Sandy Doski chipped in with 12 points while Pinkney added 10.

Nobody is suggesting shutting the doors on new neighbors. What neighboring towns are doing, and what we should be doing too, is to tap the brakes on all of the multi-family residential development proposals so that we can spend 6 months updating our regulations such that if you want to build dense residential housing here, XX percent of it needs to be affordable (we will never make any headway on increasing our percentage of affordable housing otherwise, short of 8-30g), and the rest needs to be done in as low an impact manner as possible. Low impact on traffic, health & safety, the environment and on the cost of town services.

Ned, please familarize yourself with 8-30G, and then please share the unique flaws that may be helpful in formulating a denial An 8-30g project can be denied only on very narrow grounds – i.e., if it presents health, safety or other concerns that exceed a town’s need for affordable housing. According to the TOG website, “projects cannot be rejected for incompatibility with a Town’s Plan of Conservation and Development (POCD); density; traffic congestion; height; aesthetics; concerns of neighbors or the community; and failure to comply with local zoning regulations.” 8-30g proposals are rarely denied by planning and zoning officials because the burden of proof on appeal is on the town. Appeals are costly, but a municipality can be successful in a court case if it has sufficiently established that the concerns leading to denial are factual and substantive.

P&Z Should Reject Vessel Proposal

The town should certainly measure its performance against the statewide strategies. Unless I missed it I only know of one small cluster of homes that would meet the affordable housing program. Given the 500 or so new units being added in the last 10 years I think that 4/500 would not meet the metric to allow for a moratorium. I mean, fingers crossed for a Christmas miracle but I suspect we will see a few 8-30's sent our way in a method to avoid the Nimby mob. Thanks, Nimby mob.
