Police Probing Thefts From Vehicles
Newtown Police are reporting a rash of thefts from unlocked parked vehicles overnight from late Saturday, November 7, to the early morning hours of Sunday, November 8, in the residential neighborhoods centering on Currituck Road and Walnut Tree Hill Road.
Police said they received about ten reports of valuables taken from unlocked vehicles, including money and electronic navigation devices. None of the thefts involved forced entry because all of the vehicles entered were unlocked, police said.
The estimated aggregate loss for the incidents is about $2,000, police said. The police investigation continues.
Police stress that residents should keep the doors on their vehicles locked at night and remove all visible valuables from them.
Also, in view of the approaching holiday season, police urge that shoppers not leave any visible items in their vehicles while those vehicles are parked in commercial parking lots. Such items should be locked inside vehicles’ trunks while they are parked in lots, police said.
