The Return Of Julian
(with cut)
Just when it was starting to look like the elusive Julian was gone for good,
the lovable pooch shows up, giving this lost-dog story a happy ending.
Julian, a 100-pound St Bernard mastiff, was featured in last week's Newtown
Bee after taking off from his home at 34 Meadowbrook Road on May 19. By this
weekend, he had been missing for nearly two weeks. His owner, Heather
DeAngelo, searched everywhere for her dog with the help of others. There were
several alleged sightings in and around the Eden Hill Road section of town,
but by Saturday, still no Julian.
Then she received a phone call this past weekend from Arthur Reil, the
Westport dog warden, who claimed he had found the large lovable pup trotting
down Route 136. Soon after, Ms DeAngelo arrived in Westport to claim her dog.
He was a little skinny and was covered with fleas and ticks, but none the
worse for wear, she told The Bee Monday.
The fact that Julian made his way to Westport is really no surprise. After
all, he was only living in Newtown for two days before taking off. Ms DeAngelo
had only recently picked the dog up from the New Leash on Life...Adopt a Pet
facility in Milford. Prior to that, Julian had spent the previous five months
in the Westport dog pound. Police had picked up the stray dog as it was
wandering the streets of Westport last fall.
