Blue Birds Tie Southbury

Newtown’s U6/U8 softball team, the Blue Birds, battled to a 4-4 tie against Southbury on the road this past Saturday.

The Blue Birds put up 12 hits in three innings with key leadoff singles delivered by Juliana Battaglia in the first and Vivian Meehan in the third. Jessica Rossomando got a big hit in the bottom of the third before scoring the tying run with a close play at the plate.

In the field, pitcher Emily Longo made two unassisted outs in the first. In the second and third, Katelyn Marcum and Bridget McCleary provided strong defense to hold off a late Southbury rally.
