DUI Incident

At about 2:50 pm on July 10, police responded to Sand Hill Plaza at 228 South Main Street after receiving a report that a vehicle was being driven erratically in the area.

Police report they located the vehicle in question and stopped its driver, Josephine Cappiali, 43, of Monroe, in the plaza’s parking lot.

Police said that after investigating, they charged Cappiali with driving under the influence.

After processing, police released Cappiali on $250 bail for a July 25 court appearance.

Warrant

After learning that police held a warrant for his arrest, Nicholas Denton, 30, of Stratford went to the police station about 11:40 am on July 10 and was charged with larceny of a credit card, illegal use of a credit card, and sixth-degree larceny in connection with a past incident, police said.

After processing, police released Denton on a written promise to appear in Danbury Superior Court on July 24.

Intersection Crash

A two-car accident occurred about 3:45 pm on July 8 at the intersection of South Main Street, Prospect Drive, and Peck’s Lane, according to police.

Motorist Sara Frampton, 32, of 6 Pebble Lane, who was driving a 2013 Hyundai Elantra sedan, was waiting on southbound South Main Street to turn left onto Peck’s Lane, when southbound motorist Whitney Palchik, 22, of Southbury, who was driving a 2000 Plymouth Neon sedan, struck the rear end of the Hyundai, police said.

Frampton was transported to the hospital to be checked for pain, police said. Palchik received an infraction for following too closely, police said.

Warrant Case

Police report that on July 12, they arrested Edgar Pacheco, 39, of 28 Old Green Road on a warrant specifying charges of failure to obey a traffic control signal and failure to have automotive insurance.

Those charges stems from an incident last November 4 at 6 Queen Street, according to police.

Police released Pacheco on $250 bail for a July 25 court appearance.

Moving Violations

Police report that at about 1 am on July 14, they stopped motorist Peter Kraus, 22, of 14 Middleton Road in the area near the intersection of Church Hill Road and Queen Street.

After investigating, police charged Kraus with failure to obey a traffic control signal and driving with a suspended license.

Police released Kraus on a written promise to appear in court on July 26.

Electronics Missing

Police said they received a complaint about 9:45 pm on July 11 from a freelance videographer stating that a belt-pack style electronic transmitter was stolen from the Edmond Town Hall gymnasium during a public forum on that night sponsored by the Newtown-Sandy Hook Community Foundation, Inc.

The device had been plugged into a public address system and was positioned near other electronic equipment at the gym, police said.

Police ask anyone with knowledge of the crime to contact Officer Bart Lorancaitis at the police station at 203-426-5841.

DUI Case

Police said that while on patrol northbound on South Main Street about 1:33 am on July 15, they spotted motorist Oscar Amaya, 27, of New Milford driving ahead of them.

Amaya crossed the street’s center lines several times and also struck some curbing along the right road shoulder, police report.

Police stopped Amaya’s vehicle on adjacent Elizabeth Street to investigate, after which they charged him with driving under the influence, making an improper turn, failure to drive to the right, and driving without a license.

Police held Amaya on $10,000 bail for a court appearance that day.

Car Hits Bridge

Motorist Keith Marrett, 45, of Bridgeport, who was driving a 2001 Toyota Corolla sedan southward on a wet Botsford Hill Road about 10:05 pm on July 12, attempted to make a sharp turn to the right to drive under the Housatonic Railroad bridge, but lost control of the auto, crossed into the opposite lane and struck a masonry wall that supports the bridge, police said.

Marrett was transported to Danbury Hospital to be treated for a wrist injury, police said. Marrett received an infraction for traveling too fast for conditions.

Wet Roadway

Police report that motorist Benjamin Morgan, 21, of New Milford was driving a 1998 Honda Civic coupe westbound on a wet Berkshire Road, near Zoar Road about 11 pm on July 12, when while negotiating a curve, he lost control of the auto and skidded sideways.

The auto went off the right road shoulder, struck multiple trees and then came to rest upside-down atop a stone wall, police said.

Morgan was not injured. Police said they issued Morgan an infraction for traveling too fast for conditions.

Evading

Police said they are investigating an incident in which one motorist struck and damaged another driver’s parked, unoccupied vehicle and then drove off without reporting the collision.

The incident occurred between 9:20 and 9:30 am on July 9 at the Citgo gas station at 151 South Main Street.

Damaged was a 2002 Ford Explorer pickup truck that was parked in a gravel parking lot on the north side of the gas station. The offending driver likely was driving a black vehicle, based on evidence, police said.

Schoolhouse Hill

A two-car accident occurred on the section of Schoolhouse Hill Road between its intersections with Evergreen Road and Walnut Tree Hill Road about 6:52 pm on July 13.

Police said motorist Andrew J. Woods III, 21, of 60 Schoolhouse Hill Road, who was driving a 1998 Pontiac Sunfire coupe, was making a left turn out of his driveway to head westward on Schoolhouse Hill Road, as motorist Fern Paes, 57, of 5 Teachers Ridge Road, who was driving a 2013 Hyundai Sonata sedan, was traveling westward on Schoolhouse Hill Road.

The two vehicles collided. There were no injuries. Police said they issued Woods a written warning for failure to grant the right of way.

Honda Hits Tree

Police report that at about 10:26 am on July 13, motorist Parker Rodbell, 18, of 24 Sleepy Hollow Road, who was driving a 2006 Honda CRV SUV westward near 51 Castle Hill Road, lost control of the vehicle after which it went off the eastbound road shoulder and then struck a tree.

There were no injuries. Police said they issued Rodbell a written warning for failure to keep to the right on a curve.

Van Vs Bridge

At about 7 am on July 11, motorist Wilmer Antonio Lanuza, 34, of Bridgeport was driving a 2004 GMC G-2500 van northward on South Main Street near Bryan Lane when the vehicle went out of control on the wet roadway, police said.

The van crossed into the opposite lane and then struck a concrete bridge wall along the southbound road shoulder, police said.

Neither Lanuza nor two passengers were injured. Police said they gave Lanuza an infraction for traveling too fast for conditions, failure to drive to the right, and driving without a license.

South Main Street

On southbound South Main Street at its intersection with Mile Hill Road at about 8:35 am on July 10, motorist Charles J. Osborne III, 46, of New Milford, who was driving a 2005 Toyota 4-Runner SUV, stopped behind a line of traffic waiting at a traffic signal, police report.

Southbound motorist Gayl Hook, 40, of Bridgewater, who was driving a 2006 Chevrolet Trailblazer SUV, then struck the rear end of the Toyota, police said. There were no injuries. Police issued Hook a written warning for following too closely.

SUV Vs SUV

A two-SUV accident occurred on Hawleyville Road at its intersection with Mt Pleasant Road about 8:09 am on July 11, police report.

Motorist Joseph Pavone, 68, of 7 Shadow Ridge Circle, who was driving a 2013 Ford Edge SUV, was waiting on southbound Hawleyville Road behind motorist Christopher Keller, 28, of Waterbury, who was driving a 2011 Nissan Cube SUV, police said.

The Ford then rolled into the rear end of the Nissan, police said. There were no injuries. Police said they verbally warned Pavone for following too closely.

Two Sedans

Motorist Susan MacVicar, 46, of 2 Bridge End Farm Lane, who was driving a 2011 Chrysler 300 sedan southward on South Main Street at about 9:52 am on July 9, stopped behind a line of traffic that was waiting at a red traffic signal at South Main Street’s intersection with Botsford Hill Road and Medowbrook Brook, police said.

Southbound motorist Tami Fenick, 31, of Pawling, N.Y., who was driving a 2009 Toyota Corolla sedan, then struck the rear end of the Chrysler, police said.

There were no injuries. Police said they gave Fenick a written warning for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.

DUI Incident

State police report that they observed motorist Joseph Boselli, 53, of New Jersey driving erratically on Interstate 84 in the vicinity of Exit 11 at about 12:07 am on July 14, after which they stopped him on a nearby local road to investigate.

State police said they charged Boselli with driving under the influence and with failure to drive in the proper lane.

Boselli was released on $500 bail for a July 29 court appearance, state police said.

Toyota Hits Cables

State police said that motorist Sarah Branch, 36, of Eustis, Fla., was driving a 1996 Toyota on a wet Exit 10 on-ramp for eastbound Interstate 84 at about 10 am on July 13, when the vehicle went out of control and struck some guardcables.

Branch was not injured. State police verbally warned her for traveling too fast for conditions.

Median Crash

Motorist Kevin Anastasio, 22, of South Windsor was driving a 2009 Volkswagen Rabbit on Interstate 84, west of Exit 13, about 5:50 pm on July 9, when he lost control of the vehicle and swerved onto the median, striking a traffic sign, state police said.

Anastasio was not injured. Enforcement information was not available.

Swamp Road

Police report they stopped motorist Tony N. Mason, Jr, 29, of Ridge, N.Y., for traveling 49 miles per hour in a 25-mph zone near 21 Swamp Road at about 12:26 pm on July 15.

Police charged Mason with traveling unreasonably fast and with driving under suspension. He was released on $500 bail for a July 23 court appearance.

Eyeglasses

Police are holding for safekeeping a pair of brightly-colored prescription eyeglasses that were found on May 4 near 10 Old Mill Road, off Berkshire Road. The owner may claim the eyeglasses by identifying them at the police station, 3 Main Street.

Violations

Police report they conducted a traffic stop about 12:52 pm on July 16 near 228 South Main Street to investigate the actions of a motorist.

Police report they charged Christopher Basso, 23, of 21 Taunton Lake Drive with failure to grant the right of way at an intersection and with driving with a suspended license.

Police released Basso on $100 bail for a July 30 court appearance.

Church Hill Accident

Near 37 Church Hill Road at about 3:30 pm on July 12, westbound motorist Robert Bauer, 19, of 120 Alpine Drive, who was driving a 1999 Subaru Legacy station wagon, stopped for traffic conditions, after which the Subaru was struck from behind by westbound motorist Linda Chipkin, 75, of Branford, who was driving a 2007 Infiniti M-35 sedan, police report.

There were no injuries. Chipkin received a written warning for following too closely, police said.

Toyota Crash

Motorist Jearl Fermin, 17, of Bethel was driving a 1997 four-door Toyota vehicle northward near 124 Taunton Hill Road at about 1:38 pm on July 13, when the vehicle went off the southbound road shoulder and then struck a guy wire for a utility pole, police report. The vehicle then struck a small tree and a stone wall, coming to rest on the stone wall, police said.

Fermin was transported by ambulance volunteers to Danbury Hospital for treatment of minor injuries, police said. The case is under investigation.
