Occupation: I have been director of adult and continuing education for the Newtown schools for five years. I graduated with a bachelor of general studies, with a concentration in economics and computer science, from the University of Michigan.

How Long in Newtown: I have lived in Newtown since 1981. Previously, I lived in Michigan for ten years. I was born in California and attended most of grammar school and high school in Fairfield.

Biggest Change Seen in Town: At one time I knew everybody in Newtown. Now there’s so many more people it’s impossible to know them all.

Family: I have three daughters. Melissa, 19, attends Naugatuck Community College and will be going to the University of Connecticut in the fall. Audrey, 16, is a junior at Immaculate High School. Corinne, 13, is in the seventh grade at Newtown Middle School.

Pets: I have a dog, Jake; a cat, Merlin; two rabbits; and fish.

Hobbies: I quilt, knit, cook, bake, and do weight-training.

Favorite Books and Authors: I like to read, but don’t have as much time for it as I once did. I enjoy science fiction and fantasy. I’ll read almost anything.

Favorite TV Show: I don’t watch much TV.

Organizations: I have been a La Leche League leader since 1986. I’ve been active locally and at the state level. I’ve also been the chairman of the Youth Council for the Danbury/Torrington Regional Workforce Investment Board for the past six months. It has funded grants I’ve had. I’ve also been the financial advisor for the Newtown Congregational Cooperative Nursery School for the last eight years.

Most Vivid Memory of Newtown: When the kids were little, we would go to Dickinson Park and put a blanket on the lawn under the trees where I could watch the kids swim in the pond. Those were really nice, relaxing days.

Favorite Vacation Spot: I usually don’t have time to take a vacation because I run summer schools for all the schools in Newtown. We usually go to Florida at Christmas to visit family.

Personal Philosophy: No one is totally independent. When you figure it out that you can’t do everything yourself, everything gets a lot easier. People don’t laugh enough. Don’t sweat the small stuff, and it’s all small stuff. If you can’t have fun doing your job, you shouldn’t be doing it. Raising children is the most important job you will ever have.
